Somalia officially known as the Federal Republic of Somalia is a country located in the Horn of Africa. It is bordered by Ethiopia on the west, Djibouti on the northwest, the Gulf of Aden on the north, the Indian Ocean on the east, and Kenya on the southwest. Mogadishu is the capital and the largest city of Somalia. Land Area

The names of the regions are Bari, Nugal, Mudug, Galguduud, Hiran, Middle Shabelle, Banaadir, Lower Shabelle, Bakool, Bay, Gedo, Middle Juba, and Lower Juba. It was further subdivided into cities, municipalities, towns, and villages.

Water Area

Somalia has major sources of water including groundwater, lakes, rainwater, rivers, snow, soil moisture springs, streams, water, waterfall, wetlands, etc. Somalia has more than three lakes and a few water bodies. Some water bodies have developed as tourist spots. Many water bodies are small in area and contain a minimum volume of water. Most of these water bodies are fresh water and very few are salt lakes.

Mountains

Somalia contains more than 1,755 named mountains. The highest peak is Shimbiris which is about 2,460 meters (8,071 feet) and the most prominent mountain is Karkoor which is about 2,077 meters (6,814 feet). The other major mountains in Somalia are Surud Cad, Waraq, Xaubub, Buuraha Surud Cad, Buuraha Surud Madow, Jilin, Jifiyo, Hurarka, Buuraha Daalo, Buuraha Dhaxsi, Gubane, Gacan Libaax, Waliga, Buuraha Dhariyo, Dubeyrin, Tawawir, Marmar Gedle, etc.
